Challenges Faced by new international Student

Canada is one of the most favorite countries for international students because of the quality education it provides. Most of the students prefer to come to Canada for their higher studies as it is beneficial for their future. No doubt, first few months might be challenging for him or her as they come to a complete new country with no friends or family to support them. First challenge might be looking for an accommodation. In most cases, students stay with their friends or relatives for first week or so and then they move to an accommodation that is close to their college/university. Another challenge would be finding a job that can help you earn money to support your expenses. Again, it might take from a couple of days to few weeks to find a job in most of Canadian cities. If you have good educational background and have work experience, it would be easier to get a job. Do not worry if you are just coming after your grade 12 and do not have any experience. Canadian job market provides a whole bunch of opportunities for newcomers as well. Just make sure to prepare your resume properly and get yourself ready for job interview. A tip for those who don’t have any job experience, until you find a job start working as a volunteer in your free time at your school, in local library etc. It gives you confidence, help you make connections, and adds a feather to your resume, which eventually helps you get a job.

Next challenge might be balancing your time for studies and job. Undoubtedly, it can be stressful sometimes to manage your studies and job at the same time. You will be going to school for 3-4 days and working for the rest of the days every week. Therefore, it is very important to manage your time properly. There would be days when you are not very busy and vice-versa. Thus, for the days when you do not have any assignment or exams coming up, that is your chance to get ready for it before hand. You can finish anything pending on those days and be all set in advance. A very important tip that there is no time to waste and do not procrastinate.

Apart from this, living away from the family and friends is definitely tough. You might feel lonely and stress sometimes, thus be sure to take care of your mental health. If you feel like struggling at all in your academics, financially or mentally always talk about it. The first few months can pose some challenges and hardships for you but the Canadian education, work experience and exposure will help you shape your future better.
