IRCC Services Impacted: 155,000 Federal Government Employees on Strike in April 2023

IRCC services might be affected as 155,000 federal government employees are on strike

The Public Service Alliance of Canada has announced a strike effective April 19, 2023. The Public Services Alliance of Canada is a union that represents 155,000 federal government employees including Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada employees.

The Public Service Alliance of Canada is on strike for fair wages, better work-life balance etc. However, this strike is going to impact Government of Canada’s services. This also includes IRCC services. IRCC services that are expected to be affected are as below:

  • Processing of the applications
  • Contacting IRCC via email, phone call or social media
  • Citizenship and passport applications

There are still few services, that applicants can access during the strike such as submitting online and paper-based applications, accessing online accounts using GCkey.

The government of Canada said that they are in talks with the union to resolve the matter as soon as possible. Thus, until the strike is going on, any applicants who have submitted their applications to IRCC are suggested to wait for little longer to get any updates to their applications.
