New measures to improve family reunification in Canada
Minister of Immigration Refugees and Citizenship, honourable Sean Fraser announced on May 26th , 2023 about new measures that will improve family reunification in Canada.
Immigration Minister announced that family members from visa required countries who have submitted their application for Permanent Residence under Family class will be able to apply for Temporary Resident Visa when their PR application is still in process. Additionally, new and dedicated tools for processing TRV applications for spousal application will focus on reducing processing times, targeting to process applications within 30 days.
Moreover, spouses and dependents will also be eligible to apply for an open work permit when they submit their application for PR. These work permits were only allowed for those who were in Canada with their spouse on temporary status however, now spouses and dependent who made their PR application outside Canada are also able to get open work permit.
Another major announcement that was made by honourable Sean Fraser is, as of June 7, 2023 open work permit holders whose current work permit is going to expire between August 1, 2023 to until end of 2023 are eligible to extend their work permit for another 18 months using a free facilitated process.
