IRCC will start accepting Pearson test of English for Canadian Immigration applications

Immigration, Refugees and citizenship Canada announced on Feb 1, 2023 that Pearson Test of English is to be accepted as one of the official languages test in Canada starting towards end of year 2023. PTE has been approved to prove applicants’ language proficiency in Canada. Earlier, applicants had choice of either taking IELTS-General Training or CELPIP to prove their language proficiency, however now the applicants will have a third option as PTE.

Taking PTE into consideration, now Canada have total of 5 language tests available to economic immigrant applicants, three of them as mentioned earlier would be IELTS- General Training, CELPIP and PTE and two tests are French language tests TEF Canada and TCF Canada.

IRCC has not announced the exact date when they will start accepting PTE as a language proficiency test, as the announcement just said starting late 2023. It is also not confirmed that IRCC will start accepting PTE for study permit candidates or not as IRCC have a different language criteria for students and mostly international student need to take academic type of language test i.e. IELTS- Academic. It is expected that more details will be made public in coming future about the specific date when IRCC start accepting PTE etc.

Language requirement is one of many requirements for candidates to be eligible to apply for Canadian immigration under one of the many programs available. Some other requirements are to be admissible to Canada, meeting minimum CRS, work experience etc.
