4 new English Language test for Student Direct Stream

Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada has announced today that It will start accepting four new English language tests for Student Direct Stream. This is a great news for international students who qualify under Student Direct Stream that IRCC has included CELPIP General, PTE Academic, CAEL and TOFEL iBT test as eligible tests and this will be effective August 10, 2023.

Here are few things that must be considered while taking any of above-mentioned exams for SDS applicants:

• All tests must demonstrate abilities in all modules such as writing, speaking, listening and reading.
• The minimum score for CAEL and PTE academic is 60.
• The minimum score for TOEFL iBT is 83.
• CELPIP general test should have score equivalent to CLB 7 in all modules.
• These tests should be taken in person. Remote tests are not accepted.

This is going to be very helpful for international students will have flexibility in terms of taking language test for SDS. Previously, students only have to take IELTS test and achieve minimum of 6 score in all modules to be eligible for SDS.
