Canada to allow more youth to work and travel in Canada
Canada to allow more youth to work and travel in Canada: International Experience Canada Program update
Canada has a long proven history of supporting Canadian and international youth to work and travel abroad. Following this trend, on December 1, 2022 Canada announced 20% increase in International Experience Canada Program for 2023.
It is expected that around 90,000 international youth will be able to work in travel in Canada in coming year and that will be huge helping factor to solve Canada’s recent labor shortage.
International Experience Canada is a reciprocal program that allows Canadian and International youth to work and travel in each other’s countries. Canada has youth mobility agreements with 36 countries including Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom and many more through IEC that enables youth from these countries to travel and work in Canada up to 2 years if they are in age range from 18 to 35 (for some countries 18 to 30).
Youth from these 36 countries can apply from Jan 9, 2023 and there are three categories of participation under this program:
- Working holidays is a category of IEC program where applicants receive an open work permit that allows them to work anywhere in the host country to support their travels.
- International co-op category: Participants in co-op category receive an employer based work permit that allows them to gain targeted experience in their field of study.
- Young professional participants receive an employer specific work permit to gain targeted, professional work experience that is within their field of study or career path.
