Canada to extend and expand Open Work Permit for Hong Kong Residents
The honorable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced today that Canada is going to extend and expand open work permit policy for eligible residents of Hong Kong.
Canada has decided to extend the deadline for Hong Kong Residents to apply for open work permit until February 7, 2025. This policy initially allowed Hong Kong residents to apply for open work permit who have graduated from a post-secondary learning institution in Canada or abroad in last five years, however now this has been changed to 10 years.
As of Feb 6, 2023, Hong Kong Residents who are in possession of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or British National passport and have graduated in last 10 years from a leaning institute in Canada or abroad are eligible to apply for open work permit in Canada that is valid for up to three years.
At the same time, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has also announced two pathways to permanent residence for eligible Hong Kong applicants, these pathways are in-Canada graduates and Canadian Experience Class.
